Imaging manifestations in the orbits of extra orbital oncologic processes in pediatric population

Purpose or Case Report: To describe the imaging manifestations of orbit involvement in extra orbital oncological processes in the pediatric population.
Methods & Materials: Following IRB approval we retrospectively reviewed imaging features of orbital involvement in pediatric patients affected by extra-orbital oncologic processes primarily on MR imaging. All studies were performed on either a 3 Tesla or 1.5 Tesla Siemens MRI scanner utilizing a brain and orbit protocol MRI without and with gadolinium contrast.
Results: Based on our review we found involvement of the orbit in oncological processes which included but were not limited to mainly neuroblastoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, Ewing's sarcoma, lymphoma, and leukemia. We will described the spectrum of MR imaging findings in each of these malignancies.
Conclusions: It is important for practicing pediatric radiologists to be familiar with imaging manifestations of common pediatric malignancies which can involve the orbit. Oftentimes the orbital manifestation may be the presenting symptoms of some of these malignancies.
