Thoracic Lesions: Fetus to Adolescent

Purpose or Case Report: The main purpose of this educational exhibit is to review the imaging findings of different thoracic lesions across the pediatric age spectrum, from fetus to adolescent.
Methods & Materials: The educational goals include discussion of the differential diagnosis of thoracic lesions based on the patient's age and lesion location through a case-based review format. With this knowledge, pediatric radiologists may be more confident in accurately identifying and interpreting thoracic lesions when encountered on various imaging modalities such as fetal ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), postnatal chest radiograph, computed tomography (CT) scan and MRI as well as nuclear imaging.
Results: This exhibit will contain multiple pediatric cases illustrating fetal thoracic lesions such as bronchial atresia, bronchopulmonary sequestration, congenital lobar overinflation, congenital pulmonary airway malformation, bronchogenic cyst and pleuropulmonary blastoma as well as primary lung and mediastinal masses including thymic cyst, thymoma, mediastinal lymphoma, mediastinal germ cell tumor, mediastinal lipoma, lymphatic malformation, inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor and neurogenic tumors (neuroblastoma and paraganglioma).
Conclusions: Pediatric radiologists who are familiar with the imaging findings of pediatric thoracic lesions can aid in determining the appropriate differential diagnosis and guiding management decisions.
