Purpose or Case Report: Sonography is often the initial evaluation of facial lumps and bumps. Most of these lesions are benign, although some malignant lesions may present in this fashion. For education and reference, we composed a pictorial guide of a wide variety of etiologies of facial lumps and bumps.
Methods & Materials: Illustrative cases including lymphadenopathy, dermoid, epidermoid, lipoma, cellulitis, abscess, cyst, hemangioma, insect bite, foreign body, sialadenitis, Langerhans cell histiocytosis and sarcoma were chosen from the last ten years of facial sonography at our institution. CT, MRI and pathologic correlation are included.
Results: Reviewing these cases provides sonographic experience of a wide variety of facial lumps and bumps, improves the accuracy of interpretation and guides management for further workup as appropriate.
Conclusions: A pictorial review of a wide variety of diseases presenting with facial lumps and bumps improves the accuracy of interpretation and guides further workup and treatment.
