The major concern for scoliosis in young children is the potential for poor pulmonary function and increased mortality. Early arthrodesis as well as severe spinal deformities can lead to ‘thoracic insufficiency syndrome’ by arresting spine growth and altering the shape of the thorax which results in restrictive lung disease. Several growth friendly instrumentation systems have been introduced to allow for growth until the timing is appropriate for spinal fusion for early onset scoliosis. The terminolgy of ‘growth friendly procedures ‘ is used for those which guide the growth of the spine. Growth modulation procedures are different from growth friendly procedures in the sense that vertebral growth is modulated and not guided. We aim to familiarize the radiologist by reviewing the types of ‘growing spine’ procedures performed at our hospital with an emphasis on what the radiologists should know and include in their reports. The purpose of this educational exhibit is to illustrate the radiological appearance of various ossified soft tissue lesions. The differential diagnosis is wide, with entities ranging from benign to malignant. Using instructive and interesting cases encountered at our department, this presentation will outline an approach to forming a differential diagnosis. Various teaching points will be highlighted. Pathological correlation will be included where available. The cases to be presented include: Myositis ossificans Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva Tenosynovial osteochondromatosis Dysplasia Epiphysealis Hemimelica Pseudohypoparathyroidism - Albright’s hereditary osteodystrophy Phlebolith in a vascular malformation Pilomatrixoma Heterotopic ossification Synovial Sarcoma This presentation will highlight the distinguishing imaging characteristics of each entity and help narrow the differential diagnosis for a radiologist when faced with a pediatric ossified soft tissue lesion. <b>Purpose: </b>18F-FDG Positron Emission Tomography (PET-CT) has been shown to be superior to other imaging modalities in assessment of soft tissue involvement with Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH) and is now commonly included in the staging workup of LCH. Our purpose is to analyze the utility of skeletal survey in addition to PET-CT scan for detecting bone lesions in children with LCH and to evaluate if skeletal survey can be eliminated from the staging workup of LCH in order to reduce radiation exposure. Several organizations have recommended ultrasound (US) screening for Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH) in infants with risk factors to facilitate early detection and treatment of the disease, and mitigate long-term morbidity. However, there is still debate on the value of screening US, particularly the dynamic stress component. The goal of our study was to evaluate the predictive value of selective screening hip US of infants with risk factors for detection of DDH requiring treatment, including the value of dynamic stress imaging.
